Director James Marsh, the man behind the Oscar-winning documentary Man on Wire, is set to direct The Vatican Tapes, to be produced by Lionsgate Films and Lakeshore Entertainment.

The film is a “supernatural thriller” that “…centers on a series of events that unfold after a tape gets leaked from the Vatican displaying an exorcism that goes wrong.” [THR] It’s an interesting idea to be sure (written by Chris Borrelli).

Marsh’s most recent film, Red Riding: 1980, received solid reactions at Cannes earlier this year, so the man is sort of on a role. That said, he’s never dove headfirst into genre Hollywood.

How do you think Marsh will do with a genre film?
