Thoroughly beaten dead horse Little Fockers ruled the Christmas weekend bringing in $34 million, $48 million total if you include its Wednesday opening. It handedly outlasted the movie that got my money, True Grit. The Coen’s re-adaptation of the classic book brought in$25.6 million over the weekend, $36.8 million total. Also, Jeff Bridges was fantastic.
Which leads us to the third place movie of the weekend, also starring Jeff Bridges: Tron Legacy. In its second weekend, the arcade classic gated $20.1 million. It has now brought in $88.2 million, closing the gap on its $170 million budget.
At the top of a lot of year-end lists, The Fighter covered its budget this weekend, earning an additional $8.5 million, totaling $27.5 million. The King’s Speech expanded this weekend, earning $4.5 million for an 11th place finish. It has now grossed $8.4 million.
The forecast for next week sees Nicolas Cage in Season of the Witch going up against the expansion of Country Strong. I look for the latter to flop. Also, Blue Valentine will open in 4 theaters on Wednesday, in the wake of MPAA controversy.
