Proving more of the same isn’t a bad thing, The Trip to Italy premiered at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year to positive reviews, and today, the first trailer has dropped. Featuring the return of director Michael Winterbottom and stars Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon, the film features the two traversing the terrain of — you guessed it — Italy, taking in the sights and enjoying banter, with a bit more substantial drama at the core.
We said in our Sundance review, “General tomfoolery does give way to pockets of emotional resonance. While Rob’s acting career is moving in the right direction, his marriage falters, leading to some temptation from a particularly beautiful local woman. Steve, whose estrangement from his family lined the original installment with some tragedy, is determined to retrieve what he’s lost, reaching to his older son in the middle of the trip.” Ahead of a summer release, check out the debut trailer below.
The Trip to Italy opens on August 15th.
