As expected, this morning, the latest film from Fatih Akin (Head-On, The Edge of Heaven) was announced to premiere at this year’s Venice Film Festival. One of our most-anticipated films of the event, not much was known about The Cut, other than it starred Tahar Rahim (A Prophet, The Past) and that he “doesn’t say a word throughout the film and he is a bit like Charlie Chaplin, but at the same time, he is a typical western character, like Sergio Leone.”

Thanks to the first trailer, which debuted today (without subtitles, unfortunately), we now know a bit more as the story follows our character who, after surviving a genocide, is on a search to reunite with his twin daughters. It looks like a compelling drama and one can check out the trailer below, courtesy of Pandora Film (via The Playlist), for the film also starring Akin Gazi, Simon Abkarian, and George Georgiou.

Update: See an English version trailer below.

Mardin, 1915: One night, driving the Turkish Gendarmerie along all Armenian men. The young blacksmith Nazareth Manoogian is separated from his family. After he manages to survive the horror of the genocide, years later it reached the news that his twin daughters are alive. Owned rediscover the thought of her, he follows in their footsteps. They lead him from the deserts of Mesopotamia over Havana to the barren, lonely prairies of North Dakota. On his odyssey, he meets many different people, angelic and benevolent characters, but also the devil in human form.
