Arrival 3

Before he helms the Blade Runner sequel, Denis Villeneuve is getting a stab at studio sci-fi with Arrival (previously titled Story of My Life), which has been given its first teaser trailer. The story follows the aftermath of an alien craft that crash lands on Earth, and a linguist who is recruited by the military to see if the creatures come in peace.

With a stellar cast including Jeremey RennerAmy AdamsForest WhitakerTzi Ma, and Michael Stuhlbarg, this will be Villeneuve’s first full foray into the sci-fi genre. The film is scored by Jóhann Jóhannsson and lensed by Bradford Young, who has shot SelmaAin’t Them Bodies Saints, and A Most Violent Year.

Described by Renner as “if you blended a [Stanley] Kubrick and a [Steven] Spielberg movie,” he says, “If you’re a parent, it’s going to wreck you. It’s big and there are thriller elements and tension, but it’s going to lean much more into a thinking person’s film.”

Check out the teaser below, which arrives before next week’s full trailer:

When mysterious spacecrafts touch down across the globe, an elite team – lead by expert linguist Louise Banks (Amy Adams) – is brought together to investigate. As mankind teeters on the verge of global war, Banks and the team race against time for answers – and to find them, she will take a chance that could threaten her life, and quite possibly humanity.
