In a different timeline, the romantic comedy About Time would have already hit theaters, but earlier this year Universal Pictures shifted its release around six months and today they’ve finally delivered our first look in the form of an international trailer. Directed by Richard Curtis (Love Actually, Pirate Radio), the film brings back his frequent collaborator Bill Nighy, who explains to Domhnall Gleeson the mechanics of their family’s ability to time travel.

As we can see in this first trailer, his intentions for such a powerful tool seem to rest solely with his romantic pursuits. After some testing, he meets Rachel McAdams‘ character and then wants to make their relationship perfect. As we’ve seen in all of the great time travel films, when one messes with the usage, things can go wildly wrong. I certainly appreciate this conceit in an genre we rarely see it in, so lets hope Curtis can inject his usual charm and one can check out the trailer below.

Update: A different, domestic trailer has arrived. Check it out below.

At the age of 21, Tim is told an incredible family secret by his father: all the men in his family have the ability to relive their past. He can revisit any moment in his life to try things differently until he gets them perfectly right.

He decides to use his special new gift to win the heart of the beautiful Mary, but finds that the course of true love can be hilariously difficult — even with the ability to try, try and try again. And even when everything seems to be going well, an unfortunate twist in time means that he never met Mary at all… While his unique gift might just help him find true love, Tim discovers that it can’t save him from the ups and downs that life brings to everyone. In the end, he finds that making the most of love and life will mean giving up the past and living for the moment.

About Time arrives on November 8th.
