According to Rian.ru Director Timur Bekmambetov is currently preparing for pre-production on the sequel to the 2008 box office hit Wanted. Timur Bekmambetov confirmed that he is looking to get started in July so he can begin shooting around Winter time. Angelina Jolie and Kostya Khabenskiy’s characters may also return for the sequel, despite their character demises, while Bekmambetov also said that new characters will be introduced. The film will also be shot in America, India, and Russia.
Wanted was a really dumb fun movie that doesn’t necessarily need a sequel, but another crazy shoot-em up could make for a good time. It would be nice if they actually stuck closer to the graphic novel for the sequel considering the first film had practically nothing in common with the material. Its not the best graphic novel in the world, but it was a fun read with some intriguing ideas that could make for an even cooler action film. Its hard to imagine Angelina Jolie and Kostya Khabenskiy coming back since their character arcs were pretty much closed up, but realism isn’t really in the cards for this series. Lets just hope for a good sequel that contains much needed less slow motion.
