I’ll admit it: when I saw The Strangers back in 2008, it creeped me out. A lot. The atmosphere was just so tense and the story was so plausible (two people being stalked by a trio of killers in the middle of nowhere) that even the movie’s shortcomings couldn’t overshadow the experience for me. Considering that it was actually somewhat of a success, and the fact that most horror movies get them whether they warrant it or not, I’m surprised it’s taken around three years to get a sequel off the ground. But now it looks like it’s a go.
Shock Till You Drop has been tipped by their sources that casting and location scouting have begun for the project, to be directed by Laurent Briet from a script by Bryan Bertino, who wrote and directed the original. This time around, the action will take place in a seemingly abandoned trailer park in which a down on their luck family gets stalked by the same trio from the first movie. For a more detailed plot that may or may not contain spoilers depending on how sensitive you are to them, check out Ryan Rotten’s piece on the sequel’s development from back in March. That’ll give you all sorts of details that I don’t want to give because I love the element of surprise, so click at your own risk.
I’m all for another Strangers movie; again, the first one had its flaws but the idea is so good that I think that it will make for a better movie the second time around. Well it’s either that or I’m just really starved for some good R-rated horror. Pick one.
There is no start date for production quite yet, but I would suspect they’d begin shooting this year.
So, we’re getting another Strangers movie…that a good or bad thing to you? Do you even remember the first one at this point? I know it’s been three years, but movie A.D.D. is stronger than ever these days, so I figure I’d ask.
