With a new distributor, Focus Features has released their theatrical trailer for The Debt. John Madden‘s drama was set to come out last fall, but with Miramax collapsing, it was lost in the shuffle. I reviewed the film at TIFF and only moderately enjoyed it. The acting from Jessica Chastain (who will be riding a post-Tree of Life buzz come August) was great, but everything else fell a bit flat, due in part to the anticlimactic structure. The film also stars Sam Worthington, Helen Mirren, Tom Wilkinson, Marton Csokas, and Ciaran Hinds. We already saw a trailer way back in July 2010, but now it is Focus Features’ turn to deliver. Check it out below via the official site.

Plot: In this espionage thriller, shocking news reaches retired Mossad secret agents Rachel (Academy Award winner Helen Mirren) and Stefan (two-time Academy Award nominee Tom Wilkinson) about their former colleague David (Ciarán Hinds). Back in 1966, the trio (portrayed, respectively, by Jessica Chastain, Marton Csokas, and Sam Worthington [“Avatar,” “Clash of the Titans”]) tracked down Nazi war criminal Vogel (Jesper Christensen) in East Berlin. At great risk, and at considerable personal cost, the team’s mission was accomplished – or was it? The suspense builds in and across two different time periods, with startling action and surprising revelations.

The Debt hits theaters August 31st, 2011.
