It wasn’t long ago that Tom Hardy was reported as the new villain in the next Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises. Now rumours abound as to which comic baddie he might play. According to Ain’t it Cool News, a source is saying it could be Dr Hugo Strange. And as crazy Batman villains go, this one’s pretty high up the list. Strange is a scientist who veers towards the delusional side of things. His madness takes a darker turn when he becomes obsessed with The Batman, specifically who he is and how to kill him.
The character of Strange is most famous for his role in the graphic novel Prey, written by Doug Moench with illustration by Paul Gulacy and Terry Austin. As story-lines go, this one pretty much fits as a tie-in to the original Dark Knight film as it begins with Gary Oldman as the Commissioner Gordon seeking out a team to help him capture The Batman. Dr Hugo Strange is the main baddie in the novel, planning to kill The Batman, and take the position of anti-hero all for himself.
Either way it’s likely we’ll soon be discovering the story-line as it’s been revealed that Warner Brothers have put their foot down when it comes to the script’s deadline. According to Variety editor, David S. Cohen, Christopher Nolan is being forced to get the script for The Dark Knight Rises into the hands of WB film execs before the stroke of 12am today. Cohen tweeted about Nolan‘s ticking clock, saying:
“Chris Nolan told me his The Dark Knight Rises script is due Monday or he’s in big trouble. Big trouble? What can they do? Fire him?”
Whether Nolan has already managed to hand it in is still unknown, but what kind of trouble do you think he can really be in?
The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters July 20th, 2012.
