After months of waiting, the highly anticipated superhero film The Avengers finally has a date to start initial shooting. Superhero Hype reports that Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios plan to begin filming in February  2011, primed for a May 2012 final theatrical release.

The film is based off of the classic Avengers ideals as a force of super heroes, set to fight villains that no one hero can fight alone. It will be directed by Joss Whedon, who is also working as a writer on the upcoming Marvel film Captain America: The First Avenger, which is set to be released July 22, 2011.

The Avengers is filled with a talent ridden cast such as Robert Downey Jr. portraying Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth playing Thor, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and Clark Gregg being seen again as Agent Phil Coulson. The film is expected to be shot in Los Angeles set right in Marvels date book next to the new Spider Man reboot and several months before the Captain America release.

How do you feel about the star studded cast? Do you think Mark Ruffalo will do a good job portraying Hulk?
