Founded in 2006 by producer David Ellison, Skydance Productions, which is based at Paramount in Hollywood, has had unbridled success generating major movie projects like Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, True Grit and Star Trek. In a smart move my Ellison, he has enlisted Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier to script an original sci-fi adventure based on an idea formulated at Skydance.
In normal Hollywood fashion, the whole premise of the project is being kept secret, but these scribes have enough cred to garner attention. Kalogridis has scripted Martin Scorsese‘s Shutter Island, Oliver Stone‘s Alexander and James Cameron‘s long-gestating upcoming Battle Angel. She also served as executive producer on Avatar. Lussier has focused on various horror films over the years, most notably Wes Craven‘s Dracula trilogy and the remake of My Bloody Valentine.
It’s hard to judge how these scribes will do on the science fiction front, but Ellison is familiar with the genre after his work on Star Trek as well as the upcoming sequel. Ellison will also be serving as executive producer for the upcoming World War Z adaptation, due next summer.
Do you think this sci-fi project has potential?
