After its production was rumored for years, it looks like audiences will have to wait even longer to see Robert Rodriguez‘s follow-up to his 2005 hit Sin City. First eying an October bow, following the release of another Rodriguez-helmed sequel, Machete Kills, the film’s release date has now been set ten months later on August 22nd, 2014.
There’s no other current competition for The Weinstein Company project in that slot, but we can expect it it to fill out soon. No reason for the delay has been given either (we expect it has something to do with the visual effects work of complete green screen approach), but this means that Sin City: A Dame To Kill For will now land in theaters nearly 10 years after the original did. Starring Josh Brolin, Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Michael Madsen, Rosario Dawson, Jamie King, Ray Liotta, Christopher Meloni, Jeremy Piven, Dennis Haysbert, Julia Garner, and Juno Temple, expect more updates throughout the next year.
In minor release date news, FilmDistrict has acquired the Zac Efron-led Are We Officially Dating? and have slotted it for January 31st, 2014, while they’ve also moved back the Elizabeth Banks-led comedy Walk of Shame from September to March 14th, 2014. Lastly, The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4 will arrive on June 10th, 2016 and May 4th, 2018, respectively, but if you’re already thinking that far ahead, then I have no words.
Are you disappointed by this major shift? What about the other films?
