While he can be seen this summer assisting Tom Cruise in defending rogue nations, Simon Pegg will also get a crack at the romantic comedy. Man Up pairs him with Lake Bell (Brooklyn-born and sporting an English accent here) as she accidentally links up with him on a mistaken blind date. Coming from The Inbetweeners Movie director Ben Palmer, the first trailer has now landed.
It looks to hit the standard screwball/mad-cap rom-com marks one might expect from the synopsis (with the trailer seemingly revealing a bit too much), but hopefully it’s an entertaining entry into the genre. Set for a Tribeca Film Festival premiere, but no U.S. distribution yet, it’ll arrive in the U.K. on May 29th. Check out the trailer below for the film also starring Olivia Williams, Rory Kinnear, and Ophelia Lovibond.
Meet Nancy: 34, single (still), hungover (again), and exhausted by the endless futile set ups foisted upon her by well-meaning but clueless friends. As she travels across London to toast another 10 years of her parents’ blissfully happy marriage, 40-year-old, freshly-hatched divorcee Jack mistakes her for his 24-year-old blind date. In a moment of uncharacteristic optimism (or insanity?), Nancy decides to just go with it… What follows is a chaotic, unconventional, hilarious night neither of them will ever forget.
MAN UP is a romantic comedy about being yourself… or perhaps not being yourself. It’s about taking chances, making decisions and rolling with the consequences.
