Rodrigo Cortés, the director who premiered his thriller film, Buried to great acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival is already getting ready to make his next film, Red Lights. Sigourney Weaver has been confirmed in the lead role of Margaret Matheson, a para-psychologist who attempts to debunk a very reputable psychic who has just returned to the limelight after 30 years.
Cortés previously told Blood Disgusting that the film is “about how the brain does not give a true picture of reality,” which seems to suggest that Red Lights will be taking a psychological route not unlike his last film. Buried starred Ryan Reynolds as a civilian contractor who is buried alive in a coffin in Iraq and then held for ransom. According to those who have seen it, the film mostly takes place inside the coffin itself.
Cortés sounds like he is gaining quite a reputation for original creativity and if the reaction for Red Lights is anything like the reception for Buried then his career will be one to keep an eye on.
There is no news yet as to when Red Lights will begin filming, but Buried will have a limited release later this year from September 24.
