MTV recently caught up with Ryan Reynolds (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Proposal) in regards to the announced Deadpool spin off. Reynolds announced that he has been given complete control over the character of Wade Wilson. “I love it, because I get to be involved.” “And I’m such a huge fan of the character.” Reynolds also revealed that him and the studio are currently in search of a director and writer. Another good thing about this update is that Reynolds said that the new spin off will feature a Deadpool that is true to the comics. “To their credit — the studio’s credit — they want to make an authentic ‘Deadpool’ movie; they want to make it as close to the source material as possible.” In regards to appearance Reynolds said “He’s going to have the scarred-up face, he’s going to be in the suit — and, it’s going to be incredible.”

I am glad to hear that real effort is being put into this spin off but at the same time I am weary about a few things. When Reynolds said that they were going to make a Deadpool film that is true to it’s origins that is where I get scared. While the Deadpool featured in Wolverine wasn’t truly Deadpool, it truly wasn’t Deadpool either. Audiences got (though briefly) a smart mouthed A-Hole. Certain things like the breaking the 4th wall and the costume I don’t think would translate well to a feature length film. There is a reason certain things are disregarded. Perhaps the perfect example of that is in Bryan Singer’s X-Men when he scrapped all the costumes because the fact is they would have been to corny on film.

What do you want to see in the new Deadpool film?
