Rob Zombie is jumping back into the director’s chair to give the audiences more of his style of horror; IndieWire (via THR) has reported the musician turned filmmaker will start shooting his next project The Lords of Salem this spring. The movie will take place in current day Salem, where a coven of centuries old witches decide to come back and wreck havoc on the townspeople, presumably for revenge since they were probably burned at the stake all those years ago. Already, I’m on the witches side; my therapist would cringe at reading this.
Zombie was once attached to the remake of the classic horror flick The Blob, but dropped out to do this project instead. Considering how badly he butchered the Halloween series, I’m glad he instead chose something that is his own vision (he also wrote the script). And Michael Myers notwithstanding, I actually like his directorial efforts; House of 1,000 Corpses makes me laugh to this day with its over the top ridiculousness (seriously, don’t call my therapist) and its sequel The Devil’s Rejects managed to be even better and turn a family of crazed serial killers into empathetic characters. Heck, I even liked his animated effort The Haunted World of El Superbeasto — the first time I saw it. I wouldn’t recommend repeat viewings. All-in-all, I think this is a positive.
Are you a fan of Zombie’s directorial efforts and looking forward to The Lords of Salem, or are you still holding a grudge after those terrible Halloween remakes? I won’t judge you on the latter.
