Back in November, the teaser trailer for Disney’s upcoming movie Prom was released and I admitted that I was somewhat excited to see the movie. The theatrical trailer has now surfaced online, and it goes a little more in-depth, showcasing which couples the movie is going to be focused on and gives a little better idea of what the movie is. And you know what? I want to see it even more now. Check out the trailer below courtesy of Yahoo!:
You may ask, ‘what is it about Prom that is getting me so excited?’ Originally, I was skeptical of its ability to convey the true experience of going to the prom, but now I feel like it may actually hit the nail on the head. Maybe not when it comes to the event itself exactly, but the feelings about it. The lack of wanting to go or having it be one of those big teenage moments you look forward to to desperately wanting to go, but not being able to find a date due to being socially awkward. I think it’s the latter that really connects to me the most; Nicholas Braun was one of the few redeeming qualities of ABC Family’s attempt at bringing 10 Things I Hate About You to television and his character looks to be similar here.
Those grandiose gestures he makes in order to find a date in the trailer? Sure, they look hokey and contrived, but if I had the hutzpah back then I could have seen myself trying to pull those same stunts. They look like the kind that would only happen in movies, but for the people who watch a lot of movies like myself, we tend to emulate these things in the pursuit of love, so putting a note on a locker or hanging a banner off a highway doesn’t seem far-fetched. At least to me. Maybe I’m giving this movie too much credit considering I’ve only seen trailers, but I’m definitely on board and ready to see the full movie.
Prom hits theaters April 29, 2011 and I know I’ll definitely be in line to see it. In all due honesty, I’ll probably be the oldest person in line to see it, but I digress.
What do you think of the second trailer for Prom? Does it make you want to see it, or am I just being irrational?
