While Mad Men‘s final season kicked off last night, John Slattery (aka Roger Sterling) found time in the off-season to helm his first feature, building on his experience directing a handful of the show’s episode. Premiering at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year was his dark comedy God’s Pocket, which features one of the last roles from Philip Seymour Hoffman (another being A Most Wanted Man, which also premiered at Park City and we got the first look of last week).
We were mixed out of its premiere, saying in our review, it’s “a dark comedy determined to paint a distinct picture of small life in a very particular kind of town. It’s place full of colorful characters but lacking in a particularly interesting tale to tell, or a particularly interesting way to tell it.” The debut trailer has now landed today, which can be seen below for the film also starring Richard Jenkins, Christina Hendricks, and John Turturro.

Mickey tries to bury the bad news with the body, but when the boy’s mother demands the truth, Mickey finds himself stuck in a life-and-death struggle between a body he can’t bury, a wife he can’t please and a debt he can’t pay.
God’s Pocket hits theaters on May 9th.
