The dreams of a Michael Fassbender western, once dashed by Jane Got a Gun, are reigniated with a Daily Mail story, wherein it’s announced he’ll be off to the plains for Slow West. (Likely not a reworking of the Buster Keaton comedy, no matter how nice that could prove.) That picture, marking a feature debut for musician John Maclean — with whom the actor collaborated in the short film Pitch Black Heist — is expected to feature Ben Mendelsohn and Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Congress, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes); little else is noted, sadly, save for Slow West being a Colorado-set tale. How that detail affects its western aesthetic, I can’t surmise, particularly when shooting’s expected to take place in New Zealand.
IF.com report that Film4, Fassbender’s DMC Film, Great Southern Film & Television, and the New Zealand Film Commission will back Slow West, which is kicking off production before the year’s end.
On what’s sure to be a relatively different note, it’s been reported that Brady Corbet will feature in Noah Baumbach‘s While We’re Young — as you surely know, the in-production dramedy led by Ben Stiller, Naomi Watts, Amanda Seyfried, Adam Driver, Charles Grodin, and Adam Horovitz. Specifics of the actor’s role go undisclosed, though one may ask how substantial a late addition might prove, when all is said and done; if nothing else, finding out by way of the narrative itself should prove nice.
But, seriously: let’s get some more information on the truly exciting Baumbach feature, Flawed Dogs.
Does the Fassbender-led Go West grab your attention? Does While We’re Young stand to benefit from Corbet’s presence?
