Courtney (Ellen Page) in Columbia Pictures' FLATLINERS.

In a post-Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping world, the concept of Flatliners loses a bit of its edge after viewing Bill Hader’s one-off scene, but nonetheless a remake will arrive this fall. Starring Ellen Page, Nina Dobrev, Diego Luna, James Norton, and Kiersey Clemons, the first trailer has landed, which followed a group of medical students who experiment with dying, then coming back to life.

“We viewed the original movie as a jumping-off point – and are now telling a re-imagined story with new characters,” producer Michael Douglas tells Fandango, who debuted the trailer. “We have learned more and more about the world, and science keeps answering so many questions and taking us to so many previously unexplored places – but still no one knows what happens after we die. That’s a question we’ll be asking ourselves forever.”

Check out the trailer below for the film directed by Niels Arden Oplev (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Dead Man Down).

Flatliners opens on September 29.
