Angelina Jolie is scheduled to make her directorial debut with the production of her own original screenplay. The film, being produced by GK Films, details a cross-ethnic tryst on the eve of the Bosnian War. Based on the short description given, it has a decidedly Romeo-and-Juliet feel to it.

Jolie, a staunch humanitarian, wrote and will also produce the film. She is ambitious about the project, looking to put together a cast of local actors and actresses in Bosnia and Herzegovina. She will re-team with Graham King and Tim Headington. The three have already produced The Tourist which hits theaters December 10th.

Normally, I would be inclined to say that casting unknown actors for such a heavy topic would be a bad move, but I think Jolie has enough name power to carry it through. Whether American audiences will take to the foreign nature of this story is hard to tell. It is an ambitious first project, to say the least.

Who would you cast? Will you see The Tourist?
