Although the film has been delayed nearly a year, Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder are wasting little time bringing together the cast for Batman vs. Superman and their choices are unexpected, to say the least. With rumors of a villain ranging from Bryan Cranston to Joaquin Phoenix, the studio has clearly landed more on the latter, outside-the-box side, officially announcing that Jesse Eisenberg has been cast as Lex Luthor. Also joining the ensemble is Jeremy Irons as Alfred, stepping into Michael Caine‘s shoes.

While Eisenberg’s casting is sure to take most people aback, it certainly gets us more intrigued at the Man of Steel follow-up. The actor has shown he can be an egomaniacal CEO in The Social Network and here, he simply has to do it bald and fight Cavill. As for Irons, he seems perfectly fit for the role of Alfred, one that we’d imagine will extend to a multi-picture deal. With Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot rounding out the rest of the cast, Batman vs. Superman arrives on May 6th, 2016.

What do you think of the new casting?
