Thank You For Smoking and Up In The Air director Jason Reitman is re-teaming with Oscar-winning Juno writer Diablo Cody for his upcoming drama Young Adult, and now we know when we can see it. The drama starring Charlize Theron, Patton Oswalt, and Patrick Wilson will likely debut at Toronto International Film Festival, but Deadline reports a December 9th, 2011 limited bow, followed by a wide release on December 16th. Check out the official synopsis below.

Academy Award® winner Charlize Theron plays Mavis Gary, a writer of teen literature who returns to her small hometown to relive her glory days and attempt to reclaim her happily married high school sweetheart (Patrick Wilson). When returning home proves more difficult than she thought, Mavis forms an unusual bond with a former classmate (Patton Oswalt) who hasn’t quite gotten over high school, either.

This pits its limited release against New Year’s Eve, The Sitter, and W.E., before it heads into the ring with Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, and The Iron Lady the following week. I’ve heard Young Adult is a much different turn for Reitman with its unlikable lead, and may not have the friendly Oscar prospects like his previous films. I’ve liked all his work thus far, but looking forward to seem him change things up a bit. With TIFF’s official announcements starting tomorrow, I hope we get confirmation of a premiere.

Are you looking forward to Reitman’s next film? Is this a good date?
