Arthur was a perfectly average movie from the 1980s. Perfectly average movie remakes are generally either amazing or really bad. With that being said, everything about this remake seems to make news, including the casting of its leading lady.

Greta Gerwig, star of a number of indie flicks, and most recently Noah Baumbach‘s Greenberg is currently negotiating for a star role in the movie, according to Deadline [via Cinematical]. If successful, she will star opposite Russel Brand. The legendary Helen Mirren has also been cast.

Arguably, Dudley Moore‘s Arthur Bach was spot on, and really the only redeeming value of the movie. This makes me question the potential for this project. However, Mirren is always phenomenal, and I am anxious to see how Gerwig does.

Regardless, Brand has his work cut out for him. I think the success of this movie relies solely on him, but he is putting an excellent supporting cast around him.

Will you see this movie? Did you see the original?
