what-they-had

Hilary Swank is returning to the big screen in What They Had, the touching new drama from writer/director Elizabeth Chomko. The movie tells the story of Bridget Ertz, who has to return home on Christmas Eve in order to convince her father to put her Alzheimer’s-stricken mother, played by Blythe Danner, in a nursing home.

Co-starring Michael Shannon as Bridget’s put-upon brother Nicky, the first trailer has now arrived. What They Had had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival where it opened to positive reviews and will be released by Bleecker Street this fall.

See the trailer below for the film also starring Robert Forster, Taissa Farmiga, and Josh Lucas.

From first-time writer/director Elizabeth Chomko, WHAT THEY HAD centers on a family in crisis. Bridget (Hilary Swank) returns home to Chicago at her brother’s (Michael Shannon) urging to deal with her ailing mother (Blythe Danner) and her father’s (Robert Forster) reluctance to let go of their life together.

What They Had opens on October 12.
