I’ve read Chuck Palahniuk’s Snuff. It is a deliriously f*cked up novel that follows a porn star who organizes the world’s largest gangbang to break the ultimate record for most sexual partners in one film. The entire time I was reading it, I was imagining how a film adaptation would be simply impossible, unless you strip away every raunchy element, in which case you would be left with almost nothing. The climax (no pun intended) of the film alone is enough to warrant at least an X rating.
We’ve seen Palahniuk’s work adapted before with Fight Club and Choke. Even Haunted, Invisible Monsters, Survivor, Rant, Diary, and Lullaby have been rumored to get the bigscreen treatment, but never would I have imagined Snuff. It looks like it is happening though, as chuckpalahniuk.net (via /Film) report casting.
Fabien Martorell is attached to direct and co-write (w/ Karina Wilson) the project, and now we have a cast. Kathleen Turner was rumored years ago, but it looks like she won’t be in the production as Daryl Hannah has been cast as the porn star Cassie Wright. Thora Birch joins as her assistant/manwrangler Shiela. Mr. 600, the final gangbanger will be played by Tom Sizemore. There is a lot to be revealed during the film, as we switch perspectives between Mr. 600, Mr. 72, Mr. 137, and Wright’s personal assistant, Sheila. A wealth of family history and secrets comes into play, all of which are extremely sexual, as expected. Fabien confirms this intention below, and check out a full synopsis:
SNUFF is a Suspense/Thriller sets in the gritty world of adult entertainment. Fabien Martorell would like to shoot SNUFF as a single “closed door” set. The use of flashbacks will aide in the communication of character history, and help sustain a dramatic rhythm.
Snuff follows three men who are waiting to immortalize themselves into pornography history as they wait to bed Cassie Wright, a former porn queen who has fallen into harder times. Each chapter follows a different guy (Mr. 600, Mr. 72, and Mr. 137), as well as Sheila, the female wrangler who dictates who is the next to be filmed with Cassie Wright. As the three men wait, each starts to divulge their true reasons for wanting to be filmed, as well as discuss the sordid history of Cassie Wright and her reason for suddenly dropping out of the pornography industry for a year.
