Anchor Bay Films has picked up Dito Montiel‘s The Son of No One, which had a late premiere at Sundance this past Friday. According to Deadline, Montiel‘s film was purchased for about $2 million, with a commitment to release the film “in at least 10 of the top 20 markets.” The film’s theatrical release will likely come later in 2011.

The cop drama will star Channing Tatum — who also starred in Montiel‘s previous two films — alongside Terrence Howard, Al Pacino, Juliette Binoche, Ray Liotta, and Tracy Morgan. Considering the familial dynamics, as well as the eye-opening ensemble cast, The Son of No One will probably have much more in common with Montiel‘s praised debut, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, rather than his second film, Fighting.

The film was co-produced by Millenium Films and and Nu Image, and Anchor Bay was reportedly one of several distributors interested in the picture. It was one of the worst films we saw at Sundance, during the controversial first screening, which we attempted to iron out.

What have you thought of Montiel’s previous works? Are you looking forward to his latest film?
