Dermot Mulroney is perhaps best known for his performances in rom-coms, like My Best Friend’s Wedding in which he played the bestie to the belatedly besotted Julia Roberts. Now this handsome leading man is taking to the director’s chair to helm to IFC Films romantic comedy Love Wedding Marriage.
With it’s woefully generically title, bubbly music and cast that pairs pop star turned movie starlet Mandy Moore with the crushingly handsome Kellan Lutz of Twilight fame, this is clearly being marketed to women. Which is to say it looks like a cliche heavy confection. If the trailer is an accurate depiction, than Love is more Wedding Planner than My Best Friend’s Wedding. But maybe it’s just a weak trailer. Maybe Mulroney has been able to learn from his rom-com past, and crafted a touching and funny tale about well – love, weddings and marriage. As someone who feel Moore deserves more worthwhile roles than she’s often offered, I hope so.

When newlywed marriage counselor Ava learns that her parents, whose marriage she’s always idealized, are headed for divorce, she cannot accept it. Ava sets out on a dangerous path to save her parents’ marriage at the expense of her own, manipulating loved ones to achieve her objectives.

Love Wedding Marriage will be available On Demand May 1, and hit theaters June 3 with a limited release.
