It’s only fitting that as his excellent F For Fake arrives on Criterion Blu-ray, we’re getting a new look at the career of Orson Welles. The documentary Magician: The Astonishing Life and Work of Orson Welles, arriving towards the end of the year, comes from director Chuck Workman, and today the first trailer has arrived.

While it looks to more of a sprawling overview of his life’s filmography and his many struggles rather than focus on one specific angle, hopefully it mines enough new territory to be worth a watch. With the director’s endlessly fascinating, almost tragic relationship with Hollywood and filmmaking, I imagine it will be. Featuring interviews with Richard Linklater, Peter Bogdanovich, Frank Marshall, Anthony Perkins, Martin Scorsese, Sydney Pollack, Steven Spielberg and many more, check out the trailer below and explore the career of Welles here.

Magician opens on December 12th.
