If you were a fan of the Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell team-up in The Other Guys, then we’ve got good news for you. Deadline reports that Warner Bros have finalized a deal that will see the duo re-team for a football comedy titled Turkey Bowl. They will follow “guys from football-obsessed towns who lead rival teams in an annual tackle football game for bragging and trash-talking rights.” The “grandiose” tackle games are reportedly reminiscent of the Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy broadcaster gang fights, filled with celebrity cameos. Written by 30 Rock‘s Robert Carlock and Scott Silveri it is not mentioned if the film has any connection with the South by Southwest title of the same name.

Kyle Smith‘s 64-minute film has pretty much the exact same premise, as one can see in our review here. We praised the film for its organic, real-time style, but it is hard to imagine a studio film keeping the same structure. Ferrell’s latest film, the drama Everything Must Go recently debuted to strong reviews, including our own. I enjoyed his match-up with Wahlberg in The Other Guys and I’ll definitely be looking forward to this one. In the meantime, one can see the original Turkey Bowl next month and the trailer below.
