Emile Hirsch is an actor who seems to thrive on risk-taking. After earning international attention with his gripping performance in the Christopher McCandless biopic Into the Wild, he played the title role in the Wachowski Siblings’ candy-colored flop Speed Racer, but followed this with a role in the politically-charged biopic Milk. Well, word has just come down from Variety (via The Playlist) that Hirsch’s next risk is getting into bed with a pair of green producers (Alan and Gabriel Polsky), whose biggest credit thus far is the incredibly odd Werner Herzog crime drama The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call – New Orleans.

This new project will be an adaptation of the Willy Vlautin novel The Motel Life, which “centers on two brothers who flee their Reno motel room after getting involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident.” No word yet on who’d play the other brother, much less who will write the script or direct this proposed picture, but rumor has it the Polskys may fill the last two roles themselves. With production slated to start this year, expect updates soon(ish).

If you need an Emile fix in the mean, you’re in luck as has Hirsch three pictures set to hit theaters this year: Killer Joe, The Darkest Hour and Catherine Hardwicke’s Hamlet.

Have you read The Hotel Life? Do you like Hirsch for it?
