We have one big blockbuster release date set, as well as a few for some smaller films, all found on BOM. After the disappointing, but profitable Clash of the Titans, Warner Bros. is springing back with their sequel, Wrath of the Titans. The studio has set a release date of March 30th, 2012. This is the exact time-frame in which its predecessor was released.
Battle: Los Angeles director Jonathan Liebesman is set to helm Wrath of the Titans, with Dan Mazeau, David Johnson, and Green Lantern writer Greg Berlanti as the super team currently working on the script. It was previously rumored that James Franco and Javier Bardem would also join the film. Bardem is looking at the character of Ares, the god of war, while Franco would play Agenor, son of Poseidon. Liam Neeson will reprise his role as Zeus.
Next up are two of my most anticipated films of 2011. Nicolas Winding Refn‘s Drive has been scheduled for a September 16th, 2011 release. The action drama stars Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Ron Perlman, Bryan Cranston, Albert Brooks, Christina Hendricks, and Oscar Issac.
We also have a release date for the Sundance 2011 premiere Win Win. Directed by Tom McCarthy (The Station Agent, The Visitor), the film stars Melanie Lynskey, Paul Giamatti, Amy Ryan and Jeffrey Tambor. The drama follows “disheartened attorney Mike Flaherty (Giamatti), who moonlights as a high school wrestling coach, stumbles across a star athlete through some questionable business dealings while trying to support his family. Just as it looks like he will get a double payday, the boy’s mother shows up fresh from rehab and flat broke, threatening to derail everything.” After its January Sundance premiere, Fox Searchlight will release the film on March 25th, 2011. The Visitor was released around the same timeframe in 2008, and Richard Jenkins‘ excellent performance got him Oscar-nominated.
Lastly we have a release for the retitled Love and Other Impossible Pursuits starring Black Swan Oscar-hopeful Natalie Portman. Originally premiering at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival, the film has been retitled The Other Woman and will see a release on February 4th, 2011 via IFC. [First Showing] Synopsis below:
Follows a Harvard law school graduate (Portman) who just recently married Jack (Scott Cohen), a high-powered New York lawyer, who was her boss – and married – when she began working at his law firm. Unfortunately, her life takes an unexpected turn when Jack and Emilia lose their newborn daughter. Emilia struggles through her grief to connect with her new stepson William (Charlie Tahan), but is finding it hard to connect with this precocious child. More trouble surrounds her grief with the constant interferences of her husband’s angry, jealous ex-wife, Carolyn (Lisa Kudrow).
