Kicking off today’s round-up of short-form works from Hollywood talents, we have an expensive one-minute piece featuring our top stars that won’t even be seen in America. George Clooney has continued his relationship Nespresso to pimp their coffee machines, but this time brought his friend Matt Damon for the ride, as well as his long-time business partner Grant Heslov, who directed the ad. Sources indicate that Clooney’s Monuments Men co-star brought in $3 million for the spot, which can be seen below.
Next up, hot off the U.S. release of his directorial debut, helmer Romain Gavras recruited one of music’s finest talents for a Louis Vuitton ad. Titled L’Invitation au Voyage, the 90-second director’s cut features Arizona Muse daydreaming about a lavish Venice party with David Bowie, who is singing a version of “I’d Rather Be High.” Check it out below via Pitchfork.
For our next video, we’ll be staying musically inclined, switching over to an actual video. Coming off this summer’s The Bling Ring, Sofia Coppola has teamed with her husband Thomas Mars and his band Phoenix for their latest music video, “Chloroform.” Shot in sepia tones, the 3-plus minute video captures a line of pining fans in concert. Speaking to MoMA, who premiered the video, Coppola said, “I wanted it to be a fantasy of young girls fixated on a band they love, and try to capture that feeling I remember of seeing bands when I was a kid, when you could totally lose it…and to play up the band as close but out of reach. It’s a fantasy audience, all young, pretty girls.” Check it out below and if the embed doesn’t work, view it here.
In our second-to-last video we jump into the world of fantasy. Mixing Alice in Wonderland, Aladdin and The Wizard of Oz, Marks & Spencer’s Christmas ad is directed by Johan Renck and features Transformers: Dark of the Moon star Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, while Helena Bonham Carter gets the only lines. Check out the full 1.5-minute ad in below thanks to Adweek.
Lastly, animator Yves Geleyn has delivered a stunning ad for John Lewis titled The Bear & The Hare. A gorgeous mix of traditional 2D hand-drawn animation, stop-motion, and 3D models, it truly gets one in the holiday spirit, backed by a Lily Allen cover of Keane‘s “Somewhere Only We Know.”
