Well over a decade since Peter Jackson kicked off his The Lord of the Rings trilogy, it’s difficult to believe we’re returning to Middle-earth, but the time is upon us in just a few weeks. With a completed film screening for international press this week, the ball will begin rolling for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey up to its theatrical roll-out mid-December and today we’ve got the very first clip from the film to share. Seemingly aired on the SyFy channel, this one featured Gandalf (Ian McKellen) handing over a sword to Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), and albeit quick, features much of the same magic one may expect in Jackson’s return. Check it out below, along with a new batch of behind-the-scenes stills featuring our director on set.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey arrives on December 14th.
