We’ve mostly steered clear away from the onslaught of daily set photos for Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Rises, but as a fan of finding new ways to mix the digital and cinematic world, this update is prevalent. Everything about this final piece in the Batman trilogy seems bigger, with its ensemble cast, locations, production schedule and budget. It looks like composer Hans Zimmer is also upping the ante and creating a “worldwide chant.”
Hollywood.com shared a site called UJam with us, where you can record a chant of Bah-Sah-Rah (don’t ask me what it means) in the comfort of your own home. Submissions will then be called together and be used in the actual film. Zimmer even has a message below for participants.
We need to hear your voices! Now and Loud! We are creating the sound of a worldwide chant. Everyone come and be part of it. It’s easy: There is no such thing as out-of-tune, no timing we can’t fix later. If you mumble, growl, scream or whisper, it’s all good. Make it yours. If you only get halfway through, no problem! Do it alone, bring your friends, but do it with energy and commitment. Let your voice be heard and be a part of our adventure!”

I would think this has something to do with our villain Bane (Tom Hardy) and his following, with some chanting we heard in the teaser trailer. This process is also reminiscent of the Tron: Legacy crowd recording at San Diego Comic-Con, which was used as crowd noise in the feature film. We likely won’t know its implementation until next summer, but we may get a better idea with The Dark Knight Rises teaser trailer attached to Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows next month.
Scripted by David Goyer and Jonathan Nolan, the film also stars Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Juno Temple, Josh Pence, Daniel Sunjata, Nestor Carbonell, Matthew Modine, Tom Conti, Joey King, Brett Cullen, Chris Ellis, and Josh Stewart.
The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters July 20th, 2012 in IMAX.
What do you think of this chant-recording idea? Will you participate?
