After securing an Oscar nomination for last year’s The Help, Viola Davis‘ awards attempt with Won’t Back Down earlier this fall isn’t panning out as expected, but the actress is set to try again next year with a highly-anticipated project. Incendies director Denis Villeneuve is helming the drama Prisoners and now The Wrap reports Davis has joined the cast.
The film would see Davis teaming with Jake Gyllenhaal, Hugh Jackman, Melissa Leo and Paul Dano in the thriller scripted by Aaron Guzikowski (Contraband). Jackman is on board Keller Dove, a father who abducts and tortures a man he suspects of having kidnapped his daughter and her best friend. Gyllenhaal clashes with the father as a hot-shot detective, but unfortunately no word yet on who Davis will play.
The talented actress is set for a major 2013 with a range of projects including Summit’s big tentpole Ender’s Game, including another WB project, the tween drama Beautiful Creatures. She’ll also be part of the highly anticipated two-part drama The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Hers and His alongside Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy.
Prisoners hits theaters on September 20th, 2013.
