A significant amount of time has passed since we last posted about Dario Argento’s Dracula 3D, so it seems like high time for an update. Over a year after it stalked the midnight screenings at Cannes, a second trailer for the curious selection hit the web, and it’s an improvement from the unfinished leaked teaser – though, as you’ll soon see, that’s not saying much.
The horror feature stars the enjoyably grizzled Rutger Hauer as vampire hunter Van Helsing, who goes on the hunt for the nefarious bloodsucking Count (Thomas Kretschmann). The footage suggests a throwback to erotic Hammer films, a quality that’s accentuated by the addition of the director’s comely daughter, Asia Argento. The promise of 3D nudity will certainly draw its share of prepubescent boys, but the unconvincing effects, cheap-looking sets, and overacting might not offer much for the rest of us. However, I admit that I did laugh pretty hard when the priest screamed “Evil!” See the trailer, synopsis and poster below.
