Following up last month’s Sundance Film Festival, the next major cinema event of the year kicks off this with Berlinale 2017. Ahead of our coverage, a trio of trailers for three of our most-anticipated premieres have now arrived. First up, following the fantastic drama Gloria, Sebastian Lelio is back with A Fantastic Woman. Produced by Pablo Larraín and Maren Ade, it follows, newcomer Daniela Vega as a trans woman who fights for her identity. Next up, Agnieszka Holland is back with her first film in six years, Spoor. Following a woman living in a town where crimes are discovered, she believes she knows the murderer, but she must convince everyone else.
Then we have a film not so much we’re anticipating, but we’re curious about. After his Hollywood face-plant known as The Tourist, The Lives of Other director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck is back with the post-WWII drama Werk ohne Autor. Following an artist (Sebastian Koch) who has escaped from East Germany and is tormented by his upbringing under the Nazi regime, hopefully it’s a return to form for the director. Lastly, we have a teaser for the last film from the late Michael Glawogger, Untitled, compiled by Monika Willi from footage he left behind. From his four-month, 19-day expedition to Balkans, Italy, and Africa, the film is a “journey into the world to observe, listen and experience, the eye attentive, courageous and raw.”
Check out the trailers and posters below, with hat tip to Cine Maldito and Variety.
