After the world shelled out nearly $1 billion for Jon Favreau’s live-action take on The Jungle Book, Warner Bros. realized it may be difficult to attain the same level of attention for Andy Serkis’ take on the same story, Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle. So, they sold it off to Netflix and the company has announced it’ll be arriving in just three weeks, first going into theaters followed by a streaming debut a week later on December 7.

Featuring newcomer Rohan Chand and the voice cast of Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Benedict Cumberbatch, Andy Serkis, Freida Pinto, Matthew Rhys, and Naomie Harris, it doesn’t look like Serkis is doing anything terribly different here, but we’ll be able to see soon. Interestingly enough, although Serkis officially made his directorial debut with Breathe last year, this was actually shot before, so one imagines he’s pleased it is finally seeing the light of day.

Acclaimed actor and director Andy Serkis reinvents Rudyard Kipling’s beloved masterpiece, in which a boy torn between two worlds accepts his destiny and becomes a legend. Mowgli has never truly belonged in either the wilds of the jungle or the civilized world of man. Now he must navigate the inherent dangers of each on a journey to discover where he truly belongs.
