There’s a cause for celebration as it’s only a matter weeks before a new Steven Spielberg film is upon us. While we’ll have an early review thanks to a world premiere at the New York Film Festival, today brings a pair of brief new trailers for the Bridge of Spies, which comes from a script by Matt Charman as well as Ethan and Joel Coen. Set against the backdrop of a series of historic events, the dramatic thriller tells the story of James Donovan, a Brooklyn lawyer who finds himself thrust into the center of the Cold War when the CIA sends him on the near-impossible task to negotiate the release of a captured American U-2 pilot.
“I think the character that Tom Hanks plays, James B. Donovan, he was what you would call the Standing Man,” Spielberg tells EW. “The stand-up kind of guy who stands up for what he believes in to be a universal truth, which is basically justice for all – regardless of what side of the Iron Curtain you are on. He was only interested in the letter of the law.” Also starring Mark Rylance (who leads Spielberg’s forthcoming The BFG), Scott Shepherd, Amy Ryan, Sebastian Koch, and Alan Alda, check out the trailer below, along with a pair of international posters.
