Heat Vision is reporting that Oscar-winning actor Tim Robbins (Mystic River, The Shawshank Redemption) will be joining Martin Campbell‘s The Green Lantern. Robbins is to play Senator Hammond, “the disapproving father of the movie’s villain, Dr. Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard), who becomes infused with psychic powers.” It looks the cast is coming together quite nicely as Sarsgaard joined a few weeks ago, next to Blake Lively as Carol Ferris, the leading lady. Ryan Reynolds was first cast as our DC Comics superhero.

It was previously reported that The Green Lantern will have a tone much like Iron Man, rather than The Dark Knight or even the dark mood of Casino Royale, Campbell’s last hit. After being quite disappointed in Edge of Darkness, my hype for this film has died down. It still looks like a lot of fun, with an interesting cast but I hope Campbell can make things a little more exciting.

The Green Lantern will start filming in New Orleans this March start in New Orleans. It is set for a June 17th, 2011 release.

What do you think about Tim Robbins being cast? Are you looking forward to The Green Lantern?
