If you are a director, the central lesson of today’s post is, clearly, find success in the independent film realm and you’ll get a ticket to Hollywood. First up, after crafting the Sundance hit Kings of Summer, Jordan Vogt-Roberts has been tasked with directing a blockbuster that will tell the origins of King Kong. Titled Skull Island, Tom Hiddleston has been set to star in the film that will take place on the “mysterious and dangerous” title location, as we will take a deeper look “inside this rich world with a style and scope that parallels other Legendary productions.” Set for a release on November 4th, 2016, not much else is known about the script from Godzilla‘s Max Borenstein, but it’s safe to say it’ll push back Vogt-Roberts’ Metal Gear Solid feature.
In other directing news, following You’re Next and this month’s The Guest, writer Simon Barrett and director Adam Wingard have been set to helm a remake of Kim Ji-woon‘s brutal revenge tale I Saw the Devil. While it’s very much in the early stages, The Wrap reports the duo will be taking on the adaptation of the story that follows a special agent who tracks down the evil psychopath that murdered his pregnant fiancé. This is certainly a worthy duo to take on the project and if one has doubts, check out producer Adi Shankar‘s video explaining his excitement for the project below.
Are you looking forward to both upcoming projects?
