Can you keep up with all of this? Try to follow along: Shane Black was tapped to direct Iron Man 3 a few months back. Then he was tapped to write it. And then, someone else (one Drew Pearce) was hired to write it, disappointing those fanboys who had dreams of a $200 million Kiss Kiss Bang Ban reunion project.
May those dreamers dream on (sort of), as Marvel has reportedly made Black a writer once again with Pearce. When his writing the film was reported about a month and a half ago, the idea was for more of a “Tom Clancy-thriller, with Iron Man fighting real world villains,” citing that studio’s displeasure with the sequel, despite it’s apparent interference with production and the over $600 million worldwide gross the film took in.
As to why Pearce was brought in in the first place? Some cite Black’s penchant for R-rated actioners and Pearce’s presence as a family censor of sorts. Marvel is owned by Disney after all. [Cinema Blend]
Let’s hope there will be less poor Russian accents (read: less villains) and more tongues in cheeks.
What do you think of Iron Man 3? Will Black bring the franchise back to the forefront?
