Celebrities will use twitter for anything these days, from setting up twititions (like Malese Jow who is making a bid to star as Katniss in the movie adaptation of The Hunger Games) to asking for help making a movie, as Russell Crowe has recently done.

Despite the fact that Peter Weir‘s Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World was a relative hit (although not hugely successful at the box office, it was never-the-less well-received), and despite the book sequels, written by Patrick O’Brian, just sitting around ready and ripe for the film execs picking, the sequel to the 2003 film has never been able to hoist up the flags and set sail, much to Captain Crowe‘s dismay.

While the project seems to have been in the works since 2009, when Russell Crowe was said to be developing the film, the bosses at Fox apparently are finding it hard to get interested. So to try and raise his ardent fans into action, Crowe has sent out a twitter plea, to get the ball rolling on the sequel. He recently told his followers:

“If you want a Master and Commander sequel I suggest you e-mail Tom Rothman at Fox and let him know your thoughts”

Of course, it’s unlikely that Tom Rothman allows the public access to his email account details, but 20th Century Fox now has a twitter account. You may even have better luck replying to SVP of Corp Communication Chris Petrikin, who responds frequently. So if you’re a Master and Commander 2 fan you could always send them a tweet or two hundred to let them know your thoughts. And while you’re at it Master and Commander is only $6.99 on Blu-ray at Amazon.

Would you like to see a Master and Commander sequel?
