If this film adaptation of the shameless Broadway hit Rock of Ages actually gets made, it’ll be nothing if not star-studded. Warner Bros. has approached everyone from Tom Cruise (to play rocker Stacee Jax no less) to Katy Perry to Taylor Swift to Will Ferrell to star in the musical, which tells the tale of a small town girl, living in a lonely world, who meets a rock star… going everywhere. Their tall of love is told to the ballads of the 1980s.
Now Russell Brand, who played a rock star quite convincingly in last year’s Get Him To The Greek, has been approached and is ‘circling the project.’ Adam Shankman (Hairspray) is still slated to direct the feature. Brand would play Lonny, who runs 80s rock club The Bourbon, where all the love gets going. [The Playlist]
Brand fits well into the hoped-for group of performers already approached for the film. But can this talented bunch elevate what is essentially a surface-level love story told through surface-level glam rock?
Do you enjoy Rock Of Ages? Will Brand fit in with the tone of the musical?
