Variety reports this morning that Rourke will join Jason Statham, Jet Li, Forest Whitaker, Randy Couture and Dolph Lungdren as a group of mercenaries who are hired to take down a nasty dictator in South America. Rourke will play an arms dealer who sells weapons to the gang. Sylvester Stallone is directing and Ben Kingsley may join the project as well. Mickey Rourke is also starring in 13, a remake of the french thriller 13 Tzameti. The remake stars Statham, Ray Liotta, Ray Winstone, Sam Riley, and 50 Cent. Shooting for The Expendables begins in March.
After the extraordinary performance in The Wrestler, I can’t wait to see what Rourke does next. The above films seem like fun action romp, I hope they deliver.
