Does anyone actually thinks this could happen? Granted, it might be kind of refreshing.
Robert De Niro told MTV there’s still a chance the sequel for Midnight Run, the action-caper comedy starring De Niro as a bounty hunter and Charles ‘Beethoven’ Grodin as the Mafia accountant being hunted, will get made.
Here’s what De Niro said:
“Yes, we’re gonna do, hopefully, a sequel. The script is pretty good. I don’t think [Martin Brest] would direct it — we’re figuring that out now.” [The Playlist]
Both Grodin and Brest have essentially disappeared from the film business, so a sequel would be all on De Niro’s shoulders. There’s no word in the report on who’s written the most recent draft of the sequel. Is George Gallo, the writer of the original film, still attached?
Comedies like this don’t seem to work much anymore (see Cop Out, The Bounty Hunter, etc.). That said, Date Night highlighted some of the good the action comedy genre still has to offer.
Have you seen Midnight Run? Would you like to see another one?
