A videogame that attempted to deliver the most cinematic experience yet will now be coming to cinemas. Heavy Rain is a 2010 film noir thriller game for the Playstation 3 that has sold over a million copies since its February debut.

Deadline is reporting an auction for screen rights is coming to a close. The deal is going to Unique Features, the “film shingle started by Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne after they exited New Line.” They have put up their own money for the rights. Its interesting because New Line optioned the rights way back at E3 2006 when the game was first shown.

The game follows “four protagonists involved with the mystery of the Origami Killer, a serial killer who uses extended periods of rainfall to drown his victims. Ethan Mars is a father who is trying to save his son from being the next victim, while investigative journalist Madison Paige, FBI profiler Norman Jayden, and private detective Scott Shelby are each trying to track down clues to the Origami Killer’s identity.

Warner Bros has first look so expect a deal to be made soon.
