The “found footage” sub-genre in Hollywood is going off-planet; the poster for Apollo 18, directed by Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego and produced by Timur Bekmambetov, has surfaced and thanks to IGN, you get to check it out (I know, you’re excited). Peep the poster below:

Now that’s simple marketing; just seeing an astronaut footprint next to an alien footprint tells you everything you need to know about this movie. What surprises me the most is its release date; The Weinstein Company picked it up at The American Film Market last month but with a director shift already in its short time of existence, I thought it hadn’t even started production yet. With the release date only four months away, I guess that means they are already in production and possibly even almost done…or the found footage style of filmmaking is ridiculously easy, even when it involves aliens and the moon.

Apollo 18 hits theaters March 4th, 2011.

What do you think of the poster, and what do you also think of its quick release date? Does that bode well for the potential quality of the flick, or is found footage really that easy?
